Lemon Ginger Agave goodness!

I’m over winter. Winter is a season where I find I’m constantly on the hunt for things to make it tolerable: staying hydrated, warm, cozy, and healthy.  The holiday hustle and bustle can have our health taking a bit of a backseat, but fret not! I have a simple, delicious, and bountiful solution!

I have concocted a ginger lemon agave “tea” (there’s no tea involved here – it’s merely an infusion) and it’ll give your immune system a boost, can relieve stress, it’s power packed with health and body care benefits and incredibly easy to make. Immune System Booster: ginger contains very high levels of antioxidants. Lemons are an excellent source of vitamin C which can heal wounds and preserve the strength of bones and teeth. The antioxidants in lemons also aid in reducing inflammation and arthritis symptoms In the onset of cold and flu, ginger and lemon together can act as an effective antibiotic. Ginger is also effective in increasing blood circulation.

Instant Relief from Nausea and Indigestion: if you’re prone to motion sickness, drink a cup before travelling to prevent nausea. It can also prevent vomiting associated with chemotherapy and pregnancy. It eases the pain and uneasiness of an upset stomach, and lowers the chances of heartburn and indigestion.

Great for helping to shed those extra holiday pounds: High blood sugar levels trigger cravings for carbohydrates and fatty foods. Ginger helps to normalize these sugar levels which otherwise can affect your ability to lose weight or eat healthy food. Ginger also improves fat absorption and prevents it from accumulating in the body. Both ginger and lemon have anti-inflammatory properties that prevent inflammations and enhance the activity of the liver that helps in shedding those extra pounds. For stronger, beautiful hair, vitamins A and C combat the production of DHT in the scalp that in turn triggers hair growth. Woo! Luscious locks, here I come!

Want the recipe already?! Look no further!

  • 2 cups filtered water
  • 1 lemon (use half to squeeze in for steeping, other half for garnish)
  • 2-3 inches of fresh ginger root (I grated most of mine and sliced the remaining because I’m obsessed with the aroma)
  • Organic blue agave to sweeten, if desired

Add ginger to filtered water and bring to a rolling boil for about ten minutes. Remove from heat and add freshly squeezed lemon juice, and steep for about twenty minutes – a half hour is even better. Use a strainer when pouring into your cup too avoid all those little rogue bits of ginger making their way in. Add agave to sweeten, if desired. I found that I used quite a bit of agave to counter the spiciness of the ginger. Kick up your feet and enjoy! (Side note, this can be enjoyed as a cool/iced beverage as well!)
